How to fix GSTIN or Return period in offline JSON does not match error

In this article i will provide you some basic tips and ticks to fix error GSTIN or Return period in offline JSON does not match with the selected GSTIN or Return Period appears while uploading JSON file on GSTR1 in GST Portal.

What is error about

In simple, this error tells you that your JSON provided GSTIN or Return Month Year not matching with GST Portal login GSTIN and selcted month year. May be you have created JSON for December 2023 month and your have selected January 2024 on your GST Portal. Or  Your corrent GSTIN like 24XXXXXXXXXX1ZO but by mistake you input on JSON 24XXXXXXXXXX1ZF so on those cases you will get this JSON upload error.

How to Fix JSON Error

Step 1: Check Your GSTIN & Return Period

Go to Services -> Returns -> Returns Dashboard from top menu. Check GSTIN on the right side below the legal name of the GSTIN party. and select the proper month and year of the return.

Step 2: Check JSON GSTIN and Return Period

To find out which GSTIN and return period provide on file, open JSON file with Wordpad and checkout 1st line you will find like {"gstin":"24XXXXXXXXXXXZ1","fp":"122023"," so gstin represent GST Number and fp represent financial period contain month and year 12 means december and 2023 is year.

So if there is any different between your JSON GSIN and Period with GST Login account GSTIN and selected return period you will get GSTIN or Return period in offline JSON does not match with the selected GSTIN or Return Period error on JSON upload.
